I call it Giftmas because it's not a Christian holiday for either of us or our immediate families. Mostly we just appreciate the time to get together with loved ones.
It's a dangerous business going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.

Change Brings Opportunity
Every time I think about the things that I would miss if I leave, I inevitably start thinking about the things I might encounter...and I get super excited.

Why Do I Have this Attachment to Paperbacks?
Today Jack and I started rifling through our belongings picked out some books to sell to make some money for our (possible) trip. Criteria being: we would never read them again, they're taking up too much space, and we could see them from the couch. Don't judge--we're like 3 months ahead of schedule.

Why Thailand?
As if you really need to ask that question, here are a few things we are looking forward to.

What the Heck Do I Know?
I didn't really know all that much about Thailand before I applied to this program. I knew it's a predominantly Buddhist country, I'd heard it is pretty inexpensive to live compared to the states, and I'd seen pictures of elephants and amazing beaches. We've done some research since then and also started learning the language.

The Big News!
Tuesday night was when all the excitement began. I received an email from CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange) accepting me for a position teaching English in Thailand! I read it three times before I believed what I was reading. I finished the application quite early in the process (they're not even due until mid-February) and wasn't expecting to hear from them for another month or more. Wow, I just about jumped out of my skin with elation.
