After three days of intense relaxation, I was still not ready to go to work. But alas, putting in some time with OEG was going to help fund our month-long vacation. It turned out to be fun to meet two new groups of teachers, scare them shitless with spider and snake stories, and assure them they’d probably suck at teaching because we all do at first.
The most amazing part was going to Siam Niramit, which we did not attend when I was in orientation. It seriously blew my mind with a little bit of Thai history, theatrical depictions of heaven and hell, and a sampling of Thai festivals. Before the show, you can wander around a faux Thai countryside complete with crafting stations and musical entertainment.
I recommend this place to anyone who only has a short time in Thailand. Unfortunately, they did not allow cameras during the performances so no spoilers folks, but I caught some performances before the show. (Sorry for the horrendous lighting—what an awful shade of orange!)
We went to the elephant camp again, but this time I got to spend my time with an adorable cat and baby goats!
Oh did I forget to mention that on the way to Kanchanaburi there was a truck on fire?
I did have some down time to spend with Jack during the orientation frenzy. We spent it enjoying the vegetarian festival in Bangkok’s Chinatown and running crazy-like around an empty MRT station.
Now, the orienting’s done and we’re excited to be spending two weeks with Jack’s parents! OMG we’re getting visitors!
