One of the must-see attractions in Mae Hong Son is the temple on top of a mountain, Wat Doi Kong Mu. Well, apparently the temple isn’t so must-see, but the sunset is. So I decided to make the hike up on a not-nearly-cool-enough evening.
Apparently, I had taken a much rougher route; I ran into this gently sloping pathway after climbing all those stairs.
A nice temple and a phenomenal view!
Safety first…?
A cute café behind the temple offers prime sunset seating.
I actually enjoyed it so much, I decided to climb back up the next morning for sunrise. This time I avoided the terrifying stairway and took the long windy path.
The fog settling in the valleys made the second trip up totally worth it.
Next I’m off to Soppong for very rural adventures. It’s only 65 km (~40 miles), but it takes 1½ hours because of all the mountains. Wish me luck!
